Role Summary

As a Project Manager you will report directly to the Operations Manager and will be responsible for the successful delivery of customer projects and contracts. This is a customer-facing role requiring strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally.
You will be responsible for planning, organising, and controlling resources to ensure projects are delivered in line with agreed time, cost, quality, and scope objectives, and to the satisfaction of customers.
You will primarily manage SAS projects covering design, development, production, and support-based activities, but may also be required to deliver a range of contract types including supply of existing products, new product development, consultancy services, through-life support, and
decommissioning work.
As a Project Manager you will operate with a high degree of autonomy, while working within operational governance, project controls, and reporting frameworks defined by Operations. This role will contribute to consistent project management ways of working across Business Units, particularly in planning, tracking, reporting, and change control. In addition to delivery responsibilities, you will support bid and proposal activities, ensuring that project plans, costs, risks, and assumptions are realistic and deliverable.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver projects in line with agreed time, cost, quality, and scope objectives
  • Plan, manage, and control project activities across the full project lifecycle
  • Act as the primary project interface with customers and key internal stakeholders
  • Establish and maintain project plans, schedules, budgets, and delivery baselines
  • Monitor and report project progress, risks, issues, financial performance, and quality metrics
  • Manage project change through formal change control processes
  • Coordinate and manage cross-functional resources across Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, Finance, and Operations
  • Resolve project-level issues proactively, escalating through the Operations Manager when required
  • Ensure compliance with contractual requirements, the Business Management System (BMS), and applicable quality standards
  • Lead, support, and develop assigned project team members
  • Provide project management input into bid, tender, and capture activities

  • Strong delivery and results orientation with a structured approach to project management
  • Highly organised with effective planning, prioritisation, and time-management skills
  • Strong problem-solving capability and sound professional judgement
  • Effective communicator with strong stakeholder management skills
  • Commercial and financial awareness
  • High standards of integrity and professionalism
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities
  • Degree-level qualification or equivalent experience within Project Management, Engineering, or a related discipline OR demonstrable, practical Project Management experience delivering projects of comparable complexity, scale, and risk

advantageous skills and experience:

  • Significant experience delivering projects within a technical or regulated environment (e.g. defence, aerospace, or technology)
  • Qualification to a recognised Project Management framework (e.g. APM, PMI, PRINCE2), or working towards professional accreditation
  • Alternatively, proven experience applying structured Project Management methodologies in a practical delivery environment
  • Demonstrable experience managing projects within commercial, contractual, and legislative constraints
  • Understanding of quality management systems and standards such as ISO 9001
  • Experience working within multi-disciplinary and cross-functional teams
  • IT literate with practical experience using project planning, scheduling, and reporting tools
